Summary of All Reviews

Introduction

With 11 game reviews rolled out and read by all you lovely readers, I figured it was time to have a little checkpoint and take a little breather before continuing on to bigger and better games, thus introducing a new review type: summary! Of course, with the new school semester just entering its second week, I am bound to be tied down and busy with mountains of work soon. However! I will definitely not let this blog go two weeks max without a fresh new review gracing the front page! So, without further ado, the summarized editions with some fresh new information not present in the reviews themselves at the time (selectively of course!).

The Pilot Review (Dota 2)

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 9.5/10

The first review ever was Dota 2. It is a game that truly tests the concept of teamwork and remains dynamic and fresh even after 2300 hours of gameplay on my Steam account. With over 100 heroes to choose from, this game has no end in terms of fun and replayability.

Since it was written, nothing much has changed, with only a few heroes being introduced into the game. As for the media aspect of the game, the Free-to-Play documentary of gaming created by Valve using Dota 2 tells the story of three professional Dota 2 players, as they stand to compete in the grandest stage of all, The International, and how they all started out, and how they gradually evolved into the gaming scene. With a ton of emotion and lessons to be learnt, it is truly a great film and I strongly recommend you to check it out as soon as you can.

PAYDAY 2 (2 as in 2nd review)

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 7.5/10

One of the better robber-police simulators. PAYDAY 2 has grown exponentially since the review was written. Many DLC (downloadable content) maps have been released and many weapon mods as well. New weapons also have graced PAYDAY 2, adding versatility in weaponry by introducing light machine guns. Grenades have also made a boom bam pow since its introduction. New difficulties have also been added in the form of Death Wish. Thought Overkill was difficult? Well, have fun walking 100 meters to the escape van without being taken down.

PAYDAY 2 is definitely those games that are fun with friends. But, even alone, it can be pretty addicting. So why wait? Grab a copy or four and play with some friends for some good bank-robbing time.

The Wolf Among Us

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE (REVISED): 9/10

The Wolf Among Us has come to Episode 3 since it’s review which was solely based on my experience in Episode 1. Thus far, the game fails to disappoint, with each episode slowly escalating the tension within the game and all of which has been done fantastically well with the characters found within the game. To say that Telltale Games have pulled it off successfully would be putting it lightly.

For those who are unfamiliar with Telltale Games, just know that this game is an extremely worthy pick-up. I myself got this at full price, but for those who are still skeptical about this game’s gameplay, you could wait for an offer on Steam, it may not come fast, but it’ll definitely be up on that offers list soon.

Cook, Serve, Delicious!

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 7/10

A very arcade-ish and challenging game, CSD (you can almost feel the laziness) is a game that is truly refreshing to play, paying homage to those games that have come before it such as Hotdog Bush, involving a level of micromanagement and understanding from the player in order to play and play successfully. Success in this game is only achieved through the two aforementioned things. It may just be two things the game asks from the player, but it’s the two things that take a long time to master, making this game a truly addicting one in the process.

A few patches have been applied since the review such as controller support, but nothing major to speak of except bug fixes and the norm.

Game Dev Tycoon

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE (REVISED): 7.5/10

A game created by two people to allow people to create multiple games of multiple genres on multiple platforms within the same game on the PC only. GDT is an extremely addictive game, being fun and varied throughout the whole game while teaching the player a chunk of game history by placing real-life events into the game’s timeframe. It is a truly solid game that any person with a passion for games (not just people who play games) to pick up and just go creative-mode!

The studio, Greenheart Games, has recently released a modding tool for the community, bringing big smiles to all as they can finally start to make their ideas come to life in an extremely fun way. Indeed the future of GDT is not known, but a lack of mods is definitely not happening anytime soon.

Euro Truck Simulator 2

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 8/10

Relaxation is the name of this game. Pop yourself into a truck, play that track on iTunes, and be ready to travel across the roads of Europe with nothing but you and the miles and miles of asphalt in front of you. Serenity will be achieved as you pray to yourself your cargo does not scrape the side of the road or completely flip out, and when it does, only Chaos will fill your head.

The game has recently received a big patch addressing the AI of the vehicles of the road, making them react better to certain situations and smoothing out the gameplay. The patch was well-received and makes an already playable game that much better.

L.A Noire

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 8/10

One of the better detective games out there, L.A Noire strikes the perfect balance between investigative work and its high action shootouts with criminals. Having a story that features the gritty and dark aspects of the post-World War II eras also ties in well with the game. A great main character progression within the story also helps the game in many ways, as Cole’s personality is slowly revealed as the story goes on.

Not many things have changed since the review; however, the game is still solid to this day with little bugs and problems. Definitely a worthy grab still during offers and whatnot on Steam.

Left 4 Dead 2

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 7.5/10

Old but gold, that’s the name of this game, this game can be considered one of the best zombie games out there, with varying difficulty levels for all players and a varying amount of weapons and melee weapons spread across a large amount of maps played out part by part. The unique mix of enemy types remains the game’s strong point to this day, and its VS mode is perfect for anyone finding the regular game too easy.

Nothing has changed, but that isn’t a bad thing per say. It’s a good game, and that’s all I have to say.

Goat Simulator

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 100/10

            Game of the year.

Papers, Please

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 8/10

A great, simplistic game that makes otherwise mundane tasks such as checking passports and verifying people’s access extremely fun and addicting. The challenge of this game is how observant one can be and rewards that precisely. A hint of micromanagement is also needed to deal with multiple documents at one time and cross-checking everything. With a good, basic story to sum it all up, Papers, Please is an extremely good game for its cost.

Hearthstone

OVERALL TRIBAL COUNCIL SCORE: 8/10

The most recent review, Hearthstone is one free-to-play game that is truly worth the download. The quality and overall aesthetic of the game is extremely high and well made. A card game based on luck sometimes, but overlooking that, an extremely solid game that everyone should definitely try out (it is free after all, who no like free stuff).

Final thoughts

All these 11 games have their strengths and weaknesses. But all of them are definitely fun in their own way (at least for me), and that is the reason I picked them in the first place. And that concludes a Season 1-ish kind of thing for this review blog! Woo! A big thanks to all readers out there and I hope to have a new review on this blog in about a week or two’s time hopefully with a new layout and format of writing. See you guys then!
